Animation - Maeve Hydock

Image
Artist Statement:  In my animation "Blossoms and Sunshine," I wanted to show the cool journey of a flower blooming, all made in Photoshop. Starting with the timeline, I brought together a bunch of images to tell the story of a flower growing. I embedded each individual image into photoshop. I used the quick selection tool to cut out each piece just right, and with the brush tool, I switched up from white to black to make that growing effect of the flower. Every image got its own layer, and I grouped some together to stay organized by making a folder. Masking was key for making everything blend smoothly. My goal was to make something that feels real and full of life, like you're watching a real flower bloom right in front of you. It's a simple, chill animation that I hope makes people feel as happy as a sunny day with flowers everywhere.

Video 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Llr_KTNtdlk  Overall it seems like a long bus, not a super difficult process. At the beginning of the video, he was using the brush tool to create an actual drawing of what he was then going to animate. He used different layers to complete the drawing. I do this this would be a bit difficult since I have never done this before. It would definitely be easier to use images from the internet like gifs to start instead of drawing something on my own. As I said in the beginning the actual animation process does not look that difficult it just looks a little time-consuming.  Video 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO1yDUJl8qw  This video revolved mainly on the timeline process and how to use that. Overall this does seem a little difficult but I think it is something that will end up becoming easy once I get the hang of it. Doing different video groups and layers seems challenging because you have to make sure that you ar...

Somewhere - Maeve Hydock

Image
Artist Statement: For this piece, I decided to base it on one of my favorite shows, The Mick. The Mick was a short TV comedy series about an Aunt who took care of wealthy children. I would watch this show whenever I was upset to cheer me up which is why I chose this show because it means something to me. I decided to use a clip from the show featuring Chip and Sabrina, who are two of the main characters in the show. In this image, they are waving up to their Aunt during their little brother, Ben, party. I decided to photoshop myself behind Sabrina. I decided to take a picture of myself looking up and waving as well so it looked like I was including in what Chip and Sabrina were doing. To create this piece I used the quick selection tool along with the clone stamp tool. I then made multiple different layers to adjust the ton of my body closer to everyone else's in the picture.

 1. An image I believe would be hard to photoshop myself into.  I think it would be hard to photoshop myself into this image because there are only so many places I could put myself. I think the best place I could go would be near the sink and make it look like I am doing the dishes which would be a hard thing to photoshop and make it look real.  2. An image that inspired me for my somewhere project.  This image inspired me because it is a very open space that would be easy to use as an image for a photoshop project. I could easily make myself tiny and put myself in the back with the group of three. This would be very easy to use for a beginner which I am.  3. A set of images that made me laugh.  This set of images made me laugh because they were clearly asking to photoshop the guy in the back out or turn his head in a different direction, but instead, they moved the dad's head.  4. An illusion that I may want to recreate.  This is an illusion I w...

Hydock - BW To Color

Image
Artist Statement: For this black and white to-color project I went through many different steps in Photoshop to create my final images above. To start I used the Adobe color wheel and picked three different kinds of colors with five colors in each to create three different styles of the image. I swatched all of my colors and then continued to make different layers with the color selection tool depending on what I wanted color. Then I was able to color each section that I selected with the colors that I swatched from the color wheel. I continued these steps two more times to create three different products. I then put each of the layers into three separate folders. Lastly, I added my logo on the bottom left.

This image really stood out to me emotionally because it is showing two individuals holding hands in the symbolism of standing together and being strong and there for each other during difficult times. This photo is one of many that show women and girls fighting for justice against sexual violence in Congo. I get emotional when I look at this image because knowing how many women have had to go through sexual violence is heartbreaking.  The image above shows visually expresses my connection to human beings and the world around me. This image was taken this past June while I was on a research trip in Costa Rica with my fellow classmates and teachers. There were only a total of nine of us that went on this trip. Six students including myself and three teachers including my AP Environmental Science teacher. In this photo, we were walking down a trail in Liberia on our way to a farm.  The reason I chose this photo was not only because of the people in it but also because of ...
